Measurement worksheet
Print this, take it to the tank, and fill it in. These are the numbers we need to confirm a fit — and the ones people most often get wrong.
Fill in
- Aquarium length
- Longest outside edge, including trim
- Aquarium width
- Outside front-to-back, including trim
- Aquarium height
- Outside base to top rim
- Manufacturer and model
- As printed on tank or receipt
- Filled weight, if known
- Water, rock, substrate, glass
- Desired stand height
- Floor to the top of the stand
Measuring the tank
Measure the aquarium itself, never the stand it sits on today.
- Use the largest outside edges, including any plastic trim.
- Measure at both ends — an out-of-square tank needs the larger number.
- Record to the nearest eighth of an inch or better.
- Do not measure the cabinet opening beneath the tank.
- Do not rely on a tank's gallon rating alone; two tanks with the same capacity can differ.
The space underneath
What has to live under the tank decides the interior clearances.
- Sump: length, width, and height, plus the room to lift it out.
- Return pump, skimmer, reactors, and their service clearance.
- Controller, power strips, and where they must mount.
- Plumbing runs and where they need to pass through.
- Doors or open access: which sides you need to reach from.
The room
- Floor: joist direction, and whether the load runs across or along them.
- Is the floor level? Note any slope.
- Wall clearance needed behind the tank for plumbing.
- Nearest outlet and whether it stays reachable.
The delivery route
A stand that fits the tank still has to reach the room it lives in.
- Narrowest doorway along the route.
- Stair turns, landings, and ceiling height at the turn.
- Elevator internal depth and door width, if applicable.
- Whether a truck can reach the kerb outside.
Send this to support@tanklith.com with the numbers included, and we will confirm what fits. We do not guess at the nearest size.
